Youth Hunt

Youth Hunt

For more than 100 years our organization has been known as Conservation Club. Over the last several decades it has become known as one the premiere Conservation Clubs in Southwestern Ohio. We challenge anyone to find a single Conservation Organization in the entire state that offers as many outdoor opportunities to their members as our over 1,400 members and their families can currently choose from.

Our program diversity and our club membership numbers keep us solvent and make us strong. In 2019, a Committee was formed to investigate declining participant numbers at our Annual Youth Hunt. The committee, consisting of GCF&G Officers, Directors, Chairmen & Members have accepted the challenge of giving our Annual Youth Hunt Event a face lift, and so the “Rooster Run Youth Hunt & Potluck Lunch” was born.

The goals are “simple”; to increase our youth participation numbers, stimulate additional member involvement, start building the next generation of conservationists, and create a one day event that everyone involved will never forget, and one that others will want to become a part of. Your committee is working hard on the creation and implementation of a special hunt that will do just that. We are committed to giving 110% to ensure this event is a huge success.

There are more changes taking place than just the creation of a catchy name. The age range for this event will be for youths 10 – 17. All Youths will likely hunt in age groups, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 & 16-17. After the event there will be a “World Class Potluck” dinner to celebrate a successful hunt and to interact socially with other generations of sportsmen. It is the subtle kickoff of an R-3 Program that is crucial to the future existence of our club, other clubs like ours, and the future of Outdoor Sports.

What is R-3? It is Recruitment, Retention & Reactivation Program. A plan to recruit young hunters, retain them as sportsmen throughout their adult lives, and to reactivate experienced, often older hunters who have slipped away from the outdoor sports they dearly love for one reason or another. This event is designed to bring all those elements and personalities together as our club waters run deep with these often overlooked and priceless resources.

Did we mention surprises? Oh yeah, we will have some of those too. If I tell you what they are, they will no longer be surprises. Let’s just say that no one should walk away from this event without having an enjoyable, positive and memorable experience. We want to see some young lady’s sign-up and take part, to show all the boys that anything they can do, a girl can do just as good or even better! The future of Outdoor Sports depends on everyone.

This year’s event will be limited 30 Young Hunters, almost four times as many as participated last year. Do not be fooled, these spots will fill up early and the opportunity will disappear quickly, so do not wait too long to register. There are so many ways our membership can help us make this event a remarkable success. I encourage you to e-mail us at roosterrun@gcfngroosterrun.com now and find out how you can make a difference in the lives of kids today and in their futures.

Members can keep up with updates surrounding this great event by checking this web page or the Youth Hunt Update page of the monthly newsletter periodically. Life is a contact sport, so let’s get in the game. Together we can make a difference. Help us showcase the club and let’s give of ourselves and our resources to help make this event really special. If we create only one life-long sportsman through our efforts, then everything we do will be worth it…
